Krištof Kintera

Bio

The work of Krištof Kintera (1973) is definitely remarkable. It includes numerous monumental installations in galleries and public space, featuring statues that make people smile. He is the leading figure of the Unit art group known for public performances and happenings in the 1990s. These grew to become visual and multimedia performances bordering on experimental theater. All of Kintera’s installations are technically demanding objects that usually move or emit sound. His Appliances series from 1999 alluded to consumer society, comparing appliances in showrooms to art objects, beautifully displayed and overpriced. Over nearly twenty years of his career, Kintera also created drawings rather reminiscent of assemblages and reliefs. His straightforward compositions are made with limited resources – found and used objects and materials of everyday human existence. Text often plays a significant role in his works.
